PeekNote

Every note in one place. Typed, drawn or captured.

PeekNote is a visual note-taking app for Mac. Write in paper notebooks, think on infinite boards and mark up screenshots, then find it all in one library or hand it straight to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.

Free · macOS 14 Sonoma or later · No account needed

Coming soon: iPad.

From screen to fix. In three moves.

One flow PeekNote users lean on every day: turning what’s on screen into a note your coding agent can act on. It takes about as long as saying “look at this.”

  1. Capture: Press ⇧⌘2 anywhere.

Every display freezes and dims. Drag out the part that matters and let go: it is captured at full Retina resolution, numbered, and saved to your library.

  2. Mark it up: Say it with arrows.

Arrows, boxes, text, highlighter, blur and crop, each a single key away. Marks stay editable after you save, and the original capture is never touched.

  3. Send: Press ⌘↩ and pick a project.

Add a line of instruction and PeekNote exports the annotated image, then starts Claude Code or Codex in your project with everything attached. For Cursor, it fills in the prompt and puts the image on your clipboard.

Three kinds of notes. One app.

Paper notebooks for writing by hand, infinite boards for thinking visually, and screenshots you can mark up. Switch between them with ⌘1 ⌘2 ⌘3.

Annotations that stay editable.

Arrows, boxes, pen, highlighter, text, blur and crop, one key each. Marks sit on top of your capture as vectors, so you can move or restyle them later and the original is never touched.

Redaction that sticks.

Blur and redact are burned into every export, so the secret in the corner of a screenshot never rides along.

Think it through on a Board.

An infinite canvas for flowcharts, mind maps, sticky notes, frames and connectors that follow your shapes. Send a board and your agent gets a structured description of it, not just pixels.

Notebooks on real paper.

Ruled, graph, dot or Cornell pages in Letter or A4. Write and highlight by hand, type between the lines, and drop screenshots, equations and tables right onto the page.

Hands stay on the keys.

⇧⌘2 captures from any app, ⌥⌘B opens your board, every tool has a single-letter shortcut, and ⌘K finds any command on a board.

Your library lives on your Mac.

Everything is stored locally and works offline. An account is optional, and sync to your other devices stays off until you turn it on.

Everything a notes app should do well.

Rich text that keeps up.

Headings, bold, italic, underline and strikethrough, plus bulleted, numbered and checkbox lists that continue on Return. Type “- ”, “1. ”, “[] ” or “# ” and keep going.

Find it in a keystroke.

Search your library by title, page and typed text. ⌘F finds words on every page of a board, and favorites keep the important ones on top.

Math, tables and code.

LaTeX equations, function graphs, tables with formulas like =SUM(B2:B6), charts that update with their table, and code blocks highlighted in 14 languages.

Start from a template.

Flowchart, Mind Map, Software Architecture, Study Notes, SWOT, Kanban and ER Diagram boards, and six paper styles for notebooks.

Version history and sync.

Turn on Sync for boards and notebooks on your other devices, with up to 20 earlier versions to restore. Conflicts keep both copies.

Export it any way you need.

PNG at 1× to 3×, vector PDF with one page per board page, SVG, notebook PDFs at their real paper size, printing, and copy as image.

Exploring next: Tags and folders, Handwriting search, Shared boards, PDF annotation. Ideas on the PeekNote roadmap, not in the app yet.

Made for how you actually work.

Developers, students and design teams use the same three workspaces in very different ways. Pick yours.

Developers: Bug reports your agent can read.

Capture the broken state, circle it, and hand it to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor with the project folder already set. Boards go along as structured context, so architecture diagrams become instructions.

  • ⇧⌘2 capture from any app
  • Redact secrets before they leave
  • Send to your agent with ⌘↩
  • Boards arrive as a structured description

Students: Lecture notes with real math.

Take notes on Cornell or graph paper, typeset equations as you go, and plot functions right on the page. Screenshots from slides land in the notebook next to your handwriting.

  • Cornell, ruled, graph and dot paper
  • LaTeX equations and function graphs
  • Handwriting with pen and highlighter
  • Export whole notebooks as PDF

Design & product: Reviews that point at the pixel.

Mark up screens, drop them on a board beside the flow they belong to, and sort feedback with sticky notes and frames. Export the page as a PDF or SVG for everyone else.

  • Annotate screens with editable marks
  • Flowcharts, mind maps and Kanban
  • Frames you can export on their own
  • PNG, PDF and SVG export

Questions

How much does PeekNote cost?
PeekNote is free with unlimited screenshots, 3 Boards and 5 notebooks. Pro is $14.99 a month: it removes the limits on Boards and notebooks and adds PeekNote AI.
Do I need an account?
No. PeekNote works fully without one. An account adds sync and, with Pro, PeekNote AI. Signing in uploads nothing on its own.
What happens past the Free limits?
Every Board and notebook you already have stays yours to open, edit, export and send. The limit only applies to creating new ones.
Is PeekNote on iPad?
An iPad app is coming soon. Today PeekNote is a direct download for macOS 14 Sonoma or later that keeps itself up to date. Sync and Pro belong to your account, not your device.
Does PeekNote upload my notes?
Only if you turn on Sync, and screenshots only if you also turn on Screenshot sync. PeekNote AI sends only what you pick when you ask. Sending to an agent keeps the export on your Mac.

Every idea, bug and lecture, one shortcut away.

PeekNote is free for your Mac. No account needed, and your library stays on your device.
